Home care

Home care teams work alone in people's homes. Find short, practical courses for them here.

What training does a home care team need?

  • The Health (Amendment) (Home Support Providers) Act 2026 was signed into law on 1 July 2026. It is not yet in force: the Minister for Health sets the start date, and we found no order when we checked.
  • Once it starts, HIQA will register and inspect home care providers. HIQA's draft national standards for home support are still in development.
  • Safeguarding is already a clear need. The national adult safeguarding framework is a policy framework, not yet a law.
  • Samson will write its HIQA registration and inspection course once the start date and the final standards are known.
